Volunteering is a great way to get out of your comfort zone and get involved in your community. Living in UVU student housing, you probably hear about service projects the school is doing all the time but it may not work out with your schedule. There are many groups in the community that always need volunteers, and you can help out whenever you have the time! Here are just a few organizations in Orem that always need volunteers.
Habitat For Humanity
With Habitat For Humanity, you can do everything from building houses to pricing recycled items to community cleanup projects! There is a Habitat ReStore right here in Orem, not far from our UVU college apartments. ReStores sell donated items and use the funds to build and repair safe and affordable homes in the community because everybody deserves a safe place to live.
Scera Center For The Arts
The Scera Center For The Arts is a non-profit organization that provides our community with creative arts, performing arts, and family-friendly entertainment. Whether you want to take a pottery class, watch a play, or go to a concert, Scera is the place to be. Because they are a non-profit organization, Scera is always in need of volunteers! Find the time to get out of your student housing by UVU and give back to the community by supporting the arts!
Orem City Monthly Kindness Project
Orem’s Kindess Committee has themes every month for ways we can be kind to ourselves and those around us. August’s theme is ‘Be Kind to Children and Families’. This month they are encouraging us to help children and families in need as they prepare to go back to school, and they have several organizations through which you can do so!
Harmony Home Health and Hospice
Harmony Home Health and Hospice has been in Orem since 1996 taking care of our loved ones during the most vulnerable times in their lives. They are always in need of hospice volunteers to offer service, comfort, and companionship to those in their care. With hospice being in people’s homes, you won’t have to go far from your UVU apartment to provide service to your community members.
Volunteering does more for you than look good on your resume, it brings joy and helps you get to know yourself and the community around you. We hope this list helps you get involved, and shows that you don’t have to go far from Utah Valley University housing to make a difference in the world.
